Bombay ride plans
So the online schedule is not up yet for this year, not sure if any shops have print copies. Both of the rides below can be found on the 2008 schedule to check mileage and start location.
Our first ride depending on weather will be the 4/18 Ask Howard ride. It must be new 20 or 40 mile options, short is Hwy. 12 bike path with the long going to Lodi.
After that it might be 4/25 for the Hyde Ride that starts out by Blue Mounds. Come out and ride please, last year only three other riders showed up.

Re: Bombay ride plans
My tentative plan for April - 4/12 Roxbury Redux (likely the short. Not quite ready for 60). I could do Ask Howard or Mt. Vernon View or both the following weekend (although the Ask Howard seems like a new ride whereas I've done Mt. Vernon before). Not sure I am up for 48-Hilly Hyde Ride, though...we'll see how April goes. When are we going to see firejen working solo?

Re: Bombay ride plans
cminter and I had the 4/12 ride marked, but turns out that's Easter, and we usually have something going on that day. It sounds like a good ride.
I'd like to start solo on a ride like the Ask Howard, 20 miles and maybe not a lot of hills, but will probably depend on how much I can get under my belt before then. I'm aiming to do the 66 mile Wright Stuff solo this year, so I better get some hilly miles in too.

Re: Bombay ride plans
Uf dah, it is, isn't it? (Easter)
You can do 40 by drafting behind cminter for half and riding by yourself the other half! I've thought about WSC several times, but each time I've chickened out.

Firejen, the SSR is designed with riders like you in mind. Being a no-drop social ride, it makes it easy for you to go more miles than you expected. We are all shooting for some late-season epic ride, either the MS 150, the WSC or both, and will encourage you to do one of them too.

Re: Bombay ride plans
At last night's BBC meeting (membership is worth the food alone), it was mentioned that volunteers were needed to mark the route of the Wright Stuff Century. I believe if you volunteer you get to ride for free or a reduced rate.
I will be doing the Roxbury ride this weekend, but just the 30 to get home a little after noon. In the meantime, it can start getting less windy any time now.

Jenny and I have marked a portion of the WSC the last two years, it is divided into four parts. In the past they wanted teams of two and give free entries and tee shirts to each. Guess I better get on the ball before the slots all fill.

Re: Bombay ride plans
It's looking like I won't be able to partake in a SSR this Saturday morning- but I'm planning on Sunday's BBC ride (probably the short route). I heard Wiswell is interested... anyone else?
**Edit** won't make the BBC ride this morning in lieu of a ride with my wife later today. Have a great day, everyone!

Cminter,
You guys still on for Ask Howard? I think I might do the 40. Weather looks pretty good.
There was a good turnout and good group for the Roxbury ride. I ended up riding with two other women and a dude named Russell (blue Cannondale) who I've seen at other rides.

Re: Bombay ride plans
cminter, how was your ride? I rode about 1/2 with two guys (on Italian), was dropped for a few miles, then, while taking a quick break hooked up with the trail group of 5 (including two Belgians). We went by a house completed engulfed in flames on L-S road and later got screamed at and honked at by a driver who told us to stop at the stop sign when we we already stopped! (L-S and Rt 19!)
What was the 20 mile route? We took a bunch of roads to Kickapoo/Cty P, then the bikepath, then Rauls. You probably did the same and then turned around and took US 12 path back? How'd firejen do on any hills?

Re: Bombay ride plans
Our ride went well, same route to right on L-S from Rauls. The short map showed right on Hwy P to bike trail but written cue went straight on L-S to bike path which is what we did. I've done a few rides with the Colnago rider, can't remember his name but his wife rides as well. We saw the house as well looked like a good time, it was a training exercise.
Jen can chime in on the hills or check our new blog linked below.

Re: Bombay ride plans
I guess I was a little surprised by the ride. I was thinking bike trail, flat, easy...so the hills were unexpected. I managed all right. Chad did some rear derailleur adjustment on my bike by the side of the road to fix some skipping issues while climbing, and he showed me some techniques with shifting that helped with the climbing. Of course while I'm cruising through tons of gears Chad is cruising up the hills on his single speed.
The next ride we have marked in the Bombay schedule is the 4/25 Hyde Ride on the tandem.

Well that's good, because they did not seem to be working very hard to put it out, mostly just staring at it. I figured they didn't have water or something.
Dang, if I had known the route was the same up to Rauls, I would have ridden with you at least that far!
Firejen, the end of that bikepath can be a little tough, eh? (It doesn't look like much, and yet it goes on for about a mile) Try it with a 20 mph headwind! (I go out there 1-2 times per week.)
We will be out of town next weekend but I will probably do the Indian Lake ride 5/3.
Nice job on the blog (though those kids don't yet have "cycling legs" yet!).

Re: Bombay ride plans
Glad to hear that you got up the hills alright, firejen. maybe Cminter can divulge some of those climbing secrets to me when I'm finally able to make it to a group ride. I'm usually OK at the top of the first hill, but the second and beyond kill me, and I'm left gasping for air. practice practice practice, i guess. doesn't help that I'm not quite sure how to adjust my pedals for float, and my left pedal seems to float a little too much.

Sunday sounds like a nice ride. I'll see what the weather looks like and make my decision then.

Is anyone in for the BBC ride tomorrow from Brigham Park? Sunday's weather is looking iffy so I may give 48 hilly miles a go tomorrow morning while the weather is good.

Re: Bombay ride plans
Anyone on for Indian Lake Cruise Sunday? I believe Jacques, JB and I rode it last year. I fear a lonely time all by myself after getting dropped by the big group (the usual pattern...). I won't be able to ride in any capacity for probably at least two weeks after that so it is my last hurrah for a while.
Most of you I think are doing the quadrupedal though.

One or both of us will be at Lakeview Park for this Sunday's ride 5/31. If we are tandem it will be the 45 otherwise if I'm solo might do the 60. Anybody else in ?

I'm going to mountain biking up at Levis Mound tomorrow, so I'm out. Today is all about working around the house and getting ready for the big move. T-minus 30 days...

Re: Bombay ride plans
Have fun on the mountain bike, I'm going to give it a shot this year out at Blue Mounds. I'm waiting for Jenny to get back from photos at the fire department and the boys won't ride with the wet roads. Looks like geocaching and hiking are in order later today.

Re: Bombay ride plans
Thought I could do the 45 mile, but did a windy 60 today and am pooped. I will be doing Keyeser Kaper 6/13 and possibly the flat family ride 6/20.
Also, shameless plug: I'm volunteering for the Capitol View tri on 6/14. More are needed. volunteer meeting 6/6 11 AM at Endurance House.
Maybe I'll revive in the next 12 hours.

Re: Bombay ride plans
Fish Lake Fling, July 12, any takers?
CHOOSE FROM TWO RIDES ON JULY 12:
7/12 Sun - Lakeview Park 8:00 AM
Fish Lake Fling
L-65, M-54, S-34 Moderately Hilly
Head north to Fish Lake and bring your lunch and enjoy a break at Fish Lake
County Park or add extra loops and eat at the Roxbury Tavern or in Sauk
City. Short option to Martinsville or Indian Lake Park if you add a mile or two.
