Sunday Social Season Starter, April 15.

I will be hosting morning coffee and snacks at my house starting about 9:30. All are welcome for a social road ride, starting after snacking. If you know where to find me, just show up. If you need address and directions, please call my cell phone before 8:30 pm - 608-220-0348.

For those who are not familiar with the Sunday Social: We meet and decide on route and distance at the meeting time. It's a no-drop ride, conversational pace. We observe traffic rules, ride respecting all road users, and say Hi or wave at all 2-wheeled vehicles. Yes, even motorcycles. They face many of the same hazards from four-wheel motorists as bicycles do.

Any questions?

Pi Day Ride - March 14th

Pi Day (Wednesday March 14, 2012) is coming! A few friends and I have an annual Pi Day tradition. We take a bike ride to Hubbard Avenue Diner for pie. Who's with us?

Meet at the Miss Forward Statue, State Street corner of Capitol Square, 5:15pm. Ride to Hubbard Avenue Diner in Middleton for pie. One-way distance: almost 8 miles.

This is a friendly social ride. But be prepared for some hills. To keep things scenic and interesting, we're taking Observatory Drive (climbing Madison's only hairpin turn) and also climbing Colgate Road in Shorewood Hills. Our just desserts at Hubbard ("Famous for Pie") will be well earned!

Make your own plans to get home from Hubbard - we're riding to our homes from there. We recommend you bring a bike lock and lights.

Free pie for the rider who can recite pi to the farthest decimal place.

Route:
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/70767576

I'm now working most Saturdays, so the Saturday Social has become the Sunday Social. Same idea: Meet, decide route, ride. Conversational pace, observe traffic regulations, wave and/or say Hi to other bikers, no drop. Everybody welcome.

For the next few Sundays: Meet at west end of Arboretum (Seminole Highway at Arb) about 9 am.

It's fun, it's easy, even I can do it!

Installing Topeak Full Frame Pump

So I finally got smart and bought a full size frame pump as opposed to a mini pump or cartridges (both of which I still have and will continue to use in some form).

I am generally mechanically capable of figuring out stuff, but I can't get the pump to stay spring loaded into the top tube triangle. And it doesn't come with great instructions. It has a velcro strap also, but that is for stability. I tried opening the pump head, holding the valve, etc, but naturally once I let go of the valve it is no longer tensioned to fit in. Any help? I can go back to the store and have them show me, but I won't necessarily have the bike and the pump together conveniently (Machinery Row).

Here is the pump:

http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ … ter-10608/
